Lower Deschutes trail

So the plan was to go hike 11.5 miles in on Saturday, camp somewhere, and hike 11.5 miles back out on Sunday. The wind was horrible and the clouds kept coming and going, it rained in the morning so we had a new plan, hike until 1-2 then re-evaluate whether we were staying.
There was a ton of baby geese at the trailhead

I always take pics of the geological survey markers

There were times it looked like a beautiful day.

I wasnt sure if we were supposed to go up this trail or not so i scouted it out

A cool arch.... from the bottom

There is a lower river trail and a higher rail bed trail, all the previous pics were on the river trail and there were some rough areas where we had to climb over boulders. it was a lot easier going on the rail bed trail. it was shortly after this point we decided to head back and try to find a spot out of the wind to eat lunch.

we found a camp along the river where there was a grove of brush/trees blocking the wind.

A monkey enjoying his tuna fish at the rivers edge

There were baby birds all over the place, little hard to see but these were baby ducks.

 The arch from the top

We heard a lot of noise overhead, these 4 planes were all flying pretty close in a line, not sure what kind of plane but you could tell they were big.

End of the trail selfie.  all in all we did 11.5-12 miles Saturday. we saw geese, ducks, crane, a lizard, deer, beetles, bull snake, black wing tipped dragonflies.

The Deschutes river is known for its rapids in sections, this 12 mile stretch has bathrooms and camps every couple of miles... of course some of the bathrooms were on the other side of the river lol. Here is a short video of one of the rapids.

I will have more pictures to post once i get them off the camera that Levi was using.
